Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?

2. Read through the book of Philippians in one sitting. List some major themes that stand out to you in the book? In ten words or less describe the purpose of the book of Philippians.

3. What significance did Paul place on the issue of Christian unity in the letter to the Philippians (cf. 1:1, 27: 2:1-2; 4:1-2; etc.)? Describe what Christian unity is and is not. How important is Christian unity to you? Do you believe there is unity at Macedonia? Why or why not?

4. What stands out to you about Paul’s description of Timothy in Philippians 2:19-24? In what way should we work to follow Timothy’s example? Name and describe somebody in your life that is like Timothy.

5. What stands out to you about Paul’s description of Epaphroditus in Philippians 2:25-30? In what way should we work to follow his example? Name and describe somebody in your life that is like Epaphroditus.

6. What stands out to you about Paul’s own life example in Philippians? In what way should we work to follow his example? Name and describe somebody in your life that is like Paul.

7. What stands out to you about Paul’s description of Christ in Philippians 2:5-11? In what way should we work to follow Christ’s example? Name and describe somebody in your life that is like Christ.

8. Look at the following commands in Philippians: 1:27; 2:2, 5, 12, 14, 29; 3:13-15; 4:1-2, 4-8. Which commands or areas of these commands do you struggle to obey? Describe how you should work to do better in these areas. Will you?

9. Look at some of the promises given to us in the following passages: 1:6; 2:1-2; 3:20-21; 4:6-7, 13, 19. What speaks to you most about these promises? How should these promises encourage us to live as Christians?
