Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? What questions, if any, did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?

2. What stands out to you about the attitude and actions of the religious leaders who handed Jesus over to Pilate? How do their actions compare with their concern about becoming defiled? Describe some dangers of “religion” over Christianity.

3. The Gospel of John contains a strong presentation of “truth.” Read the following passages and describe some aspects of John’s teaching about truth: John 1:14, 17; 4:23; 5:33; 8:32; 14:6; 15:26; 16:13; 17:17.

4. Do you think Pilate was sincere in asking Jesus if He was a king (cf. John 18:33)? Why do you think Jesus responded in the manner He did to Pilate’s question? Did Jesus consider Himself a king? If so, what kind of king?

5. Look back through the Exodus 12 account of the Passover. What does it mean that Christ is our Passover (cf. 1 Corinthians 5:7)? How does this idea of Jesus as our Passover relate to John’s description of Him as the Lamb of God (cf. John 1:29)?

6. What are the advantages of having Christ as our Priest instead of earthly priests? Describe some aspects of Jesus’ priesthood (cf. Hebrews 7-9).

7. What is the kingdom of God? Read the following passages and explain some of your insights about the kingdom of God: Matthew 4:17; 5:3, 10, 20; 6:33; 7:21; 13:11, 47-50.

8. What does it mean to have Jesus as the King of your life? Do you believe it’s appropriate to describe Jesus as the king of all people, even unbelievers? Why or why not? How should Jesus, as King of our life, change the way in which we think and act?
