Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas that you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?

2. Look up the following passages and describe what it means that God is present with His people: Genesis 3:8; 26:24; 39:2; 48:31; Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:5; 1 Samuel 18:14; 2 Samuel 7:9; Daniel 3:25; Isaiah 7:14; 41:10; Romans 8:38; Matthew 28:19-20. Do you believe God is still present with His people? How have you sensed God’s presence in your life? How has God’s presence helped you in recent events?

3. In 1 Peter 5:6-7 we are told to cast our cares upon Jesus Christ because He cares for us. What does it mean that Jesus cares for us? In what way does Jesus make petitions for us to the Father (cf. John 17:11-17; Hebrews 7:25)?

4. The word for orphan in John 14:18 points to the idea of “being without the aid and comfort of friends or associates.” How does Jesus provide us with comfort and aid? What does it mean that Jesus makes His abode with us (cf. 14:2)? How is Jesus with the Father and at the same time with or in us?

5. Describe the Father’s love for His people (cf. John 3:16; 7:41; 17:23; Ephesians 2:4-5 2 Thessalonians 2:13). How has God demonstrated His love for His people? What is the significance of the word “demonstrates” in Romans 5:8 being in the present tense, as apposed to the past tense?

6. The Holy Spirit is described as another Helper, as in an additional Helper. The word for Helper is used five times in the New Testament: four times for the Holy Spirit and once for Jesus Christ (cf. 1John 2:1). What is the significance of this word being used both for the Holy Spirit and Jesus?

7. List some of the ways in which the Holy Spirit helps or serves as an advocate for us (cf. Romans 8:26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14).

8. Describe some ways in which you have struggled these last few weeks due to the Coronavirus situation? How has this pandemic challenged you in your faith and reliance on God? How has this recent event encouraged you to grow as a Christian? In what way(s) have you found comfort in God through this time?
