Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. How would you describe David’s situation? Why do you think he chose to seek Ahimelech? Does Ahimelech’s response surprise you? Why do you think he felt the way he did?

3. The writer tells us God “restrained” Doeg the Edomite. Look at Psalm 50 and describe David’s opinion of this person. What exactly does it mean that God restrained him? How does God work to restrain sin in our life and the effects of evil upon us (cf. Isaiah 59:19; John 16:8; 2Thessalonians 2:1-8)?

4. What authority is there with the name of God (cf. 1Samuel 17:54; Psalm 20:7; Philippians 2:9-11; Acts 19:1-13; Matthew 7:21-23)? Why do we often close our prayers with the statement, “in Jesus’ name” or something similar? Is it necessary to do so? Why or why not?

5. What resources has God made available to us as His children? What is significant about Jesus being the Bread of Life (John 6:32-58)? Why do you think the Word of God is likened to a sword (cf. Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:16-17)?

6. Read the following passages and describe at least four characteristics of our identity in Christ: 2Corinthians 5:17-18; 1Peter 2:9-10; Romans 8:16-17; 1Corinthians 6:19-20.
