Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Who are the “fathers” that the writer refers to in Hebrews 1:1? List some occasions and ways in which God has spoken in the past (cf. Genesis 6, 12, Exodus 3, 1 Samuel 3, etc.).

3. What does it mean that God has spoken through His Son? What is significant about the writer using the designation “Son” as opposed to Jesus, Messiah or Christ? What is the significance of the designation “Son of God”? Describe some heresies we need to avoid when explaining Christ as the Son of God?

4. Does the idea of God appointing His Son as the heir of all things lessen the authority or person of Christ? Why or why not? Describe the significance of Christ as heir of all things. How does this truth impact us personally?

5. List and describe at least five ways in which the writer emphasizes the preeminence of Christ in this passage.

6. Do you sense any tension between the Bible telling us that God created all things (Genesis 1:1) while also stating that Christ created all things (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16)? Explain how both of these can be true statements without conflict.

7. Read the following passages: John 1:1-2; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13. Describe the meaning of Christ as the radiance of God’s glory and the exact imprint of His nature? What is the significance of Christ’s deity – that He is God?

8. Why do you think the writer compares Christ to angels? List some ways in which Christ is greater than the angels? Does the idea of Christ “inheriting” a name mean that He became something He was not before, or somehow something was added to Him? If so, does that mean that He changes? Explain your answer.
