1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe how David was different than Saul. What characteristics of David are highlighted by the writer in this section?

3. Read the following passages: Isaiah 9:6-7; 11:1-5; Zechariah 9:6; Revelation 5. What are some of the unique characteristics of Christ, God’s King? What makes Jesus so special?

4. Describe some ways in which God had blessed David. Would you agree with the statement that God is a blessing (cf. Genesis 1:22; 12:2; 24:1, 35; Exodus 3:21; 2 Samuel 7:18-20)?

5. What are some specific ways in which God has blessed you? Why do you think God has blessed you; for what reason and what purpose? What are some ways that you can use your blessings from God to honor God and bless others?

6. Why do you think God allowed David to face opposition? Why does God allow or even ordain opposition in our lives at times? Consider some of the following passages: John 16:33; Matthews 10:34-36; 1 Peter 4:12; 1 John 3:13; John 1:11; Isaiah 53; John 15:18-19; Psalm 27). How should we consider and handle opposition?

7. What does it mean to be successful? How does the Bible describe true success (cf. Proverbs 2 and 3)? What was David’s source of success and prosperity? How can we, as Christians, be assured that we will be successful?
