Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What does it mean that God speaks (cf. Genesis 1-3)? Describe how God spoke to His people in the past (cf. Hebrews 1:1). Does God still speak today (cf. John 14:26; Hebrews 4:12)? How can we recognize and discern God’s voice? Explain.

3. Does God’s judgment of the Amalekites seem just and proper? How can God be just in sending Saul on a mission to destroy all the Amalekites, including infants (cf. Exodus 17; Numbers 24:20-21; Deuteronomy 25:17-19)? Do you think God judges sinners today?

4. What is it about obedience to the Lord that makes it better than sacrifice (cf. Psalm 50:8-10; Isaiah 1:11-20)? Why is disobedience to God such a serious matter (vvs. 22-23)? Why does God deserve our total obedience (cf. Romans 12:1-2)?

5. Explain the meaning of God regretting that He made Saul king of Israel (cf. vvs. 11, 35; Genesis 6:6). How can God regret something while at the same time not be found guilty of making a mistake (cf. Numbers 23:19)? Do you think God wished He had not done some things He had done? Explain.

6. Because Saul rejected the Lord, he was rejected from being king of Israel. Does this mean that the call and work of God is based on our actions? How does our devotion to God impact our usefulness to Him? Describe some ways in which God blesses us for our devotion to Him.
