Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe a time when you thought the “grass was greener” somewhere else, but it proved not to be so. Why do you think people fall prey to the “greener grass syndrome” with regard to relationships, jobs and occupations? How can we avoid this trap?

3. Read Numbers 13-14 and Joshua 2. What similarities do you see between those passages and Judges 18? Do you think the writer intends for us to see a link? If so, what would be the significance?

4. Read the following passages: Proverbs 27:20; Ecclesiastes 5:10; Hebrews 13:5-6; Luke 12:15; Psalm 37:4; Jeremiah 2:12-13; John 4:13-14; Philippians 4:11-13; 1 Timothy 6:6. In what ways do you struggle with any of the topics mentioned in those verses? Do you consider yourself a contented person? If not, explain why.

5. Explain how some of the people in our passage where lacking in godly guidance (e.g., the priest and Danites). What was guiding their decisions? How would you describe their relationship with and view of God?

6. Was the house of Micah an appropriate place for the priest to be living? Why or why not? Do you think his affiliation with Micah’s religious practices were in line with God’s instructions? What are some ways in which we need to be careful in how we affiliate with the world (cf. 1 Peter 1:13-16; 2 Corinthians 6:17)?

7. What does it mean to be led by God or led by the Holy Spirit (cf. Romans 8:12; John 16:12)? How do we know when God is speaking or directing us? Have you ever struggled with knowing the will of God? Explain. What have you found helpful in knowing the will of God in general and specifically for your life?

8. What are some ways in which you need to grow in your trust and obedience toward God (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:1)? What are some ways in which we can please God with our lives? What does God desire for you to do?
