Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What do you notice about Jonathan in the text? What examples do we have in Scripture where people obeyed God regardless of circumstances (cf. Exodus 1:15-17, Daniel 3:12-18, Daniel 6:4-10)? Have you ever faced the tension between obeying God’s commands and those of the world (cf. Acts 5:29)? Explain.

3. Saul obviously had plans to harm David. Compare Saul’s plans with God’s plans for His people. Describe our King’s plan for us (cf. Hebrews 13:20-21, 1 Peter 5:10, Philippians 2:13).

4. We see that Jonathan interceded on behalf of David before his father Saul. Discuss the idea and importance of an intercessor. List some personal examples of an intercessor in your life. Describe the meaning of Christ as our great intercessor (cf. Isaiah 53:12, Romans 8:34, 1 John 2:1, Hebrews 7:25).

5. Discuss the situation with Michal, David’s wife. How did she serve as a “savior” for David? How is Christ our Savior (cf. 1 John 4:14, John 3:17, Acts 4:12)? Reflect upon the time when the Lord saved you.

6. David seems to have no place where he is safe. Read Psalm 59. How does David describe those who are waiting outside his home to try to kill him? To whom does he give credit, and where does he find security? In spite of all that is taking place, what is his response to the Lord?

7. Can you confidently say that the Lord is your “fortress” or place of security? Are you following the Lord’s “orders” for your life? Take time to reflect upon where you are with the lord.
