Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What is the significance of Scripture emphasizing God as the “living God” (cf. 1Samuel 17:36; Psalm 42:2; 84:2; Daniel 6:26; Matthew 16:16; Romans 9:25-26)? How should knowing that God is alive change our lives (cf. 1Timothy 4:10; Hebrews 3:12; 10:31)?

3. Compare and contrast how Saul and Jonathan reference David in this passage. What does this indicate about their relationship? Why did the writer make this distinction?

4. It appears that David and Jonathan conspired to lie or at least deceive Saul about David’s absence from the festival. Is it ever right to lie? Do you think God approved of their actions? Explain your thoughts on this topic.

5. Describe the two different kingdoms of Saul and David in this passage. What was Saul’s concern about David becoming the King of Israel? Why do you think Jonathan was so supportive of David in becoming King? Describe the dominance of God’s Kingdom (cf. Daniel 2; 4; Psalm 45:6; 103:19; Revelation 11:15).

6. What is the true nature and source of peace (cf. Ephesians 2:14-16; Romans 5:1-2)? How does a person know that they have God’s peace? How do we acquire God’s peace (cf. Isaiah 26:3-4; Numbers 6:24-26)?
