Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Provide a brief summarization of the book of Judges? What does the writer of Judges intend for us to learn? Why do you think God included this book in the Bible for us?

3. What is the significance of Judges following the book of Joshua? Other than the book’s placement after Joshua, what features in chapter one indicate that this book belongs after Joshua? Likewise, what is the significance of Samuel following Judges (according to the Hebrew order of Old Testament books)?

4. Describe how the writer’s comments in 2:16-17 set the tone for the rest of the book of Judges. Why do you think Israel was so prone to wonder from the Lord (cf. Judges 2:10)? Do you ever sense your own proneness to wonder from God? Why are we like this and how do we overcome it?

5. When it comes to spiritual disciplines, how would you rank the discipline of reading God’s word? How often and how much do you think a Christian should read the Bible? Do you struggle with reading God’s word? Consider using a Bible reading plan that will help you read through the Bible.

6. Read Psalm 1, 19 and 119. List at least five important characteristics of God’s word. Why is the Bible important to you? Describe some ways in which the Bible has impacted your life?

7. How important is leadership to the wellness of an organization? Have you ever been part of an organization that lacked in leadership? If so, what problems resulted from the deficient leadership?

8. Describe the importance of good leadership to the health of a church? Describe some of the characteristics of a good church leader. For what purpose has God given leaders to the church (Ephesians 4:11-14; 1 Peter 5:1-5)?

9. What does it mean to experience the presence of God? List some ways in which God was present with different people in the book of Judges (cf. Judges 3:10; 6:34; 11:29; 13:25; 14:6, 19; 15;14)? Why is the presence of God necessary for doing the work of God?
