Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. We have seen the “Angel of the Lord” previously in the book of Judges (cf. Judges 2:1, 4; 5:23). Who is this Angel of the Lord (cf. Genesis 16, 19)? How does knowing that the Hebrew word translated “Angel” might also be translated as “Messenger” of the Lord?

3. Describe what it means that God is gracious and merciful. What are some ways in which He has expressed His mercy? How has the Lord been gracious to you, personally? Describe a time you experienced or grew in your understanding of God’s mercy.

4. Read Exodus 34:1-7. List at least five observations from this passage.

5. In what way has God revealed Himself to us? Can we see God today? If so, how? Do you believe God still appears to people, or is that something that has ceased? How would you respond to somebody that claimed to have seen God?

6. In what way should it humble us by knowing that God, although He knows we are mere human beings, chooses to interact with us? We see numerous people “commissioned” in the Old and New Testament (e.g., Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Samuel and Paul). Does God still commission people for His work? Describe some of the elements of the Great Commission (cf. Matthew 28:19-20).

7. Read Psalm 51:15-17 and Romans 12:1-2. What are the sacrifices which God desires from us? What kind of offerings have you given to the Lord? Describe what it means to offer yourself as a living sacrifice to God? Are you presenting yourself in this manner? Explain.

8. How does a person know if they possess God’s peace (cf. Philippians 4:6-7)? Explain the difference between God’s peace and that which comes from the world (cf. John 14:25-27). In what way does the presence of Christ in our lives make us perfect and complete (cf. Colossians 2:10; Hebrews 10:11-14).
