Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What stands out to you in this section of Scripture and its statements about Christ? List some of the key attributes of Christ mentioned here.

3. What does it mean that Christ emptied himself? Of what exactly did he empty himself? Why is it important to know that Christ did not empty himself of a divine nature? What would be the consequences of such an action by Christ if it were possible?

4. We are told Christ did not “grasp” his divine authority or rights. Do you ever struggle with holding onto your rights, authority, or privileges? Why is it important for us to humble ourselves (cf. Romans 12:3; 1Peter 5:6)?

5. What most impresses you about the obedience of Christ? How would you describe his commitment to obedience? Why is obedience such an essential element of the Christian life (cf. 1John 2:4-6)?

6. Do some research and look up the theological ideas of the “Kenosis Theory” and the “Hypostatic Union.” Briefly describe what these terms point to and why they are important to our understanding of Christ.
