2. Read our passage and list at least four observations. What stands out to you about this section of Scripture? Why do you think this passage is so important? How does this passage instruct us about Christ, the Word?
3. How does John’s statement of the “beginning” relate to the beginnings mentioned in Genesis 1:1 and 1John 1:1? Why do you think John opens his writing with a reference to the beginning?
4. What is the significance of John referring to Christ as the Word? How do we know that the Word is Jesus Christ (cf. vs. 14)? How is the Word in John 1 related to such passages as Psalms 33:6; Proverbs 3:19-20; Proverbs 8:1-31; and Revelation 19:11-13?
5. What does it mean that Christ, the Word, is God (cf. Isaiah 7:14; Psalm 2:7; Titus 2:3; Colossians 2:9; John 20:28)? How can God be three persons (i.e., Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and yet be one God? What is the significance of the Word being with (beside, in company with) God?
6. Does the Word, Christ, becoming a man mean that God changes? Explain your answer. Did Christ become something he was not before he became a man? How was Christ as a man different from Adam (pre-Fall and after the Fall)? How did Christ differ from us as a man?
