Galatians 5:16-25

Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe a person you consider to have the characteristic of gentleness. What stands out to you about gentleness and its impact on other people? Why do you think the world thinks of gentleness as weakness?

3. Read the following passages and provide general observations about gentleness:
– Proverbs 14:30:
– Proverbs 15:1-33:
– Psalm 18:35:
– Ecclesiastes 10:4:

4. How does gentleness demonstrate the wisdom of God (cf. James 3:13-18)? What are some ways in which we put on gentleness (cf. Colossians 3:12-14)? What is the connection between our putting on gentleness and it being a fruit of the Spirit (cf. Galatians 5:16-25)?

5. Do you think it is possible to be gentle and yet stern? At what point might we need to transition from gentleness to sternness (cf. 1Corinthians 4:18-21; Nehemiah 13:25-28; John 2:15-17)? How does the gentleness of God benefit us (cf. Matthew 11:28-29)?

6. What does it mean to receive the Word of God with gentleness (cf. James 1:21)? Why is it necessary for us to consider gentleness toward all people (cf. Titus 3:1-2; 2Timothy 2:24-26)? Why is it important that we demonstrate gentleness toward the body of Christ and especially when dealing with sin (cf. Ephesians 4:1; Galatians 6:1)?
