1. If you were not at this week’s service, consider going to the church website and listening to the sermon. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe a time when you struggled with knowing the will of God? What things helped you discern God’s will? Why is it sometimes difficult to know God’s will?

3. Why is it important to know and obey the will of God (cf. Mathew 7:21-23; John 9:31; 1 John 2:15)? List at least three possible consequences that may occur when a person does not obey God’s will.

4. Read the following passages: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; 1 Peter 2:21; 3:17; 4:19; Micah 6:8; Ephesians 5:15-21. List at least three general principles or common denominators to God’s will.

5. Read the following passages and describe some things we can do to help with discerning God’s will: Romans 12:1-2; Proverbs 3:5-7; James 1:5; Matthew 6:9.

6. Why do you think the writer of Hebrews quotes from Psalm 40? Who is being quoted by the writer of Hebrews as saying, “Behold, I come to do your will”? When did this individual come? What scroll spoke of Him?

7. Describe some ways in which Jesus is the perfect example of doing God’s will (cf. John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38; Luke 22:42). What are some ways in which you need to improve in following God’s will?

8. If obedience is more pleasing to God than sacrifice, why did He direct Israel to carry out so many sacrifices (cf. 1 Samuel 15:22; Jeremiah 7:21)? Which is easier to do, offer sacrifices or obey God? Explain.

9. Briefly describe Christ’s role as the mediator of God’s sanctifying will (cf. Isaiah 53:10-11; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Ephesians 5:25-27).
