Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What does this section of Scripture tell us about Saul’s character? What is his emotional and spiritual state? What is the issue that has caused Saul to be like this?

3. Was Ahimelech guilty in his actions with David? Did he do anything wrong to Saul? Why do you think God allowed this priest and all the others to suffer at the hand of Saul?

4. Describe the actions of Doeg. Why do you think he told Saul about Ahimelech? What does the extent of his attack tell us about him? How does Doeg help us understand the state of Israel under Saul’s leadership?

5. Do you think David felt guilty for what happened to the priests? What does David mean by saying he knew that Doeg would surely tell Saul (cf. vs. 22)? Should we feel guilty when our actions cause harmful consequences for other people? Explain.

6. List some of the benefits that David brings to Abiathar (cf. vs. 23). How do David’s words to Abiathar help us understand his character? How do you think Abiathar felt about David’s attitude?

7. How does Christ in His rejection and suffering help us relate to Him as a comforter? Read Psalm 121 and list some of our assurances in God as our King.
