Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Read through 1 Peter 1:1-12 and make observations. What stands out to you in this text? What specific “blessings” are mentioned in this section? Take time this week to read through the book of 1 Peter and note some observations from the letter.

3. To whom is Peter writing this letter? What does it mean to be “elect”? Why are these believers called exiles and what is that term’s intended meaning? Do you ever feel likean “exile”?

4. What does it mean to be “born again” (cf. John 3:3-8)? What does it mean for Christ to “cause us” to be born again and how does He do that? How does this thought connect with the term “the foreknowledge of God” mentioned in 1 Peter 1:2?

5. Notice the “blessings” associated with being born again in this section. How is Christ our “Living Hope” (cf. 1 Timothy 4:10)? What does Christ have for those who are His in 1 Peter 1:4? Describe what it means for Christians to have an inheritance (cf. Ephesians 1:11-14)?

6. One of the main themes through the book of 1 Peter is to provide hope to believers who are suffering (cf. 1 Peter 1:6-7, 3:14; 4:13; 5:10, 2 Corinthians 4:17). What instruction does Peter give to believers experiencing trials? How is it possible for Christians to rejoice while facing difficulty? What difficulties have you or are you experiencing? How do passages like 1 Peter 5:6-11 give you comfort?

7. What is significant about Peter’s writing in verses 10-12? What events might he have in mind that the prophets predicted would take place (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7; 53:1-12)? In what ways are we blessed because of what the prophets predicted (cr. Matthew 13:17; Hebrews 11:39-40)? Describe the significance of what Peter says about angels in 1 Peter 1:12?
