Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What are some thoughts that come to mind with respect to God being our Shepherd (Genesis 48:15; Psalm 23:1; 28:8; 78:52)? Why do we need a Shepherd (cf. Jeremiah 3:11-14; Zechariah 10:2-3; Isaiah 52:12-53:13; Matthew 9:36)?

3. List some of the benefits of having God as your Shepherd. Why do you think some people reject God as their Shepherd? What are the consequences of rejecting God’s care?

4. If God is our Great Shepherd, why did He appoint other shepherds (cf. 2Samuel 7:7)? What is significant about shepherds being appointed by God Himself? What is the nature and character of good shepherds (cf. Jeremiah 3:15; 23:1-4)?

5. Describe your understanding of why God gave some to the church to fulfill the role of pastor-teachers. What would you say is the most important responsibility of shepherds to God’s flock (cf. Ephesians 4:10-13; 1Peter 5:1-5; Acts 20:28)? What are some ways in which the shepherds at Macedonia can better care for the flock of God? Take some time to pray for our shepherds.

6. If Ezekiel is written after the death of King David, how can the author speak of “My servant David” (Ezekiel 34:23; 37:24)? Read Isaiah 40:1-11 and 44:28. How do these passages relate to Christ? What are some of the implications of Jesus stating that He is the Good Shepherd (cf. John 10:10-11)?
