1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Why is discipline so important to the Christian life (cf. 1 Timothy 4:7-8; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27)? Describe some ways in which we can discipline ourselves to grow in godliness.

3. What does it mean to endure discipline? What is our typical response to discipline? Why should we appreciate God for disciplining us?

4. Why does God discipline His children but not those who are not His children? What kind of Father would God be if He did not discipline us? What are some of the key ways in which God disciplines us?

5. What does it mean to share in God’s holiness (cf. vs.10)? How do we know if we are experiencing the holiness of God? What are God’s design and expectation for our holiness (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Ephesians 1:3-4; Romans 12:1-2)?

6. How does the righteousness we have from God differ from the righteousness we produce ourselves (cf. Philippians 3:7-11)? What does the fruit of righteousness look like? What is the evidence of God’s righteousness in our lives?

7. Why is it important for parents, and especially fathers, to discipline their children? How can a father’s discipline either encourage or discourage his children to embrace the discipline of God?
