Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Do you think that it is wrong to expect the Lord to reward people for righteous and faithful acts (cf. Hebrews 11:6; Matthew 6:33; Matthew 25:14-28; 1Corinthians 15:58)? Do you ever struggle with thinking God should reward you? Explain your answer.

3. What did David mean by the statement that God had delivered Saul into his hands (cf. vs. 23)? Did God deliver Saul so that David would kill him? Would David have been right to kill Saul? If not, why did God deliver Saul into David’s hands?

4. What do you think about Saul’s “confession” in verse 21? Was this a true confession and repentance? Why or why not? Is it wrong to call sin a mistake? What does it mean to sin?

5. Do you agree that some opportunities are best unseized (cf. Jonah 1:3; Genesis 39; Hebrews 11:24; John 6:15)? Describe an opportunity that came your way that you are glad you did not seize. How does this apply to Saul and David in our passage?

6. Why is life so precious? What is it about life that gives it value (cf. Psalm 90:9-12; Psalm 139:13-16; Matthew 16:24-26)? How can we better enjoy this life? How does eternal life add joy to this life?
