Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. When you think of the idea of enemies, what comes to mind? What traits characterize one who is an enemy? What is the goal and objective of enemies?

3. Does it seem strange that Jesus told us to love our enemies (cf. Matthew 5:38-48)? Why do you think God would want us to extend mercy and love as opposed to vengeance (cf. Romans 12:19)? Does God intend for us to be taken advantage of by enemies? Explain.

4. What are some common enemies we face as Christians (cf. 2Peter 5:8; Ephesians 6:11-12; 1Corinthians 15:28-26)? Why do you think Christians have enemies (cf. John 15:18; 16:33; Matthew 13:24-26)? Why is it essential for us to resist the temptation of regarding others as enemies (cf. 2Thessalonians 3:13-15)?

5. Why are we able to have confidence in God to handle our enemies (cf. Exodus 15:6)? Do you believe that God is sovereign over His and our enemies? Explain how this belief will impact our attitudes and actions (cf. Jude 1:9; Proverbs 16:7; Exodus 23:27).

6. Describe the example of Jesus in dealing with His enemies (cf. Hebrews 12:1-2). What does it mean to take refuge in God from our enemies (cf. Psalm 138:7 143:9)? Do you struggle with trusting God for protection and refuge from your enemies? Will you trust Him to handle your battles?
