Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Why do you think the writer of Samuel included this incident in the book’s narrative? How do the events of this chapter complement and add to the overall theme of Samuel? What does this narrative help us understand about the role of David as Israel’s King?

3. Nabal’s name in Hebrew means “fool.” Describe the foolishness of Nabal. What was it about his actions, attitudes, and words that indicate his foolishness?

4. What stands out to you about Abigail in this story? How does the writer contrast her with Nabal? What is the significance of her words spoken in verses 28-31? Why should we be surprised and even impressed by David’s response (cf. vvs. 32-35)?

5. Does it surprise you that God struck Nabal, and he died? Why were his actions met so severely by the judgment of God? What was so evil about Nabal’s actions (cf. vs. 39)?

6. How does this story help us in the areas of not acting foolishly (cf. Ephesians 5:15-18), seeking and listening to wisdom (cf. Proverbs 1 and 2), and trusting in the hand of God (cf. 1Peter 5:1-6)? Take time to pray and ask God to help you grow in these areas.
