2. What thoughts come to mind when you read that the safest place for David to flee from Saul was with the Philistines at Gath? What are some things associated with Gath in Samuel (cf. 1Samuel 7 & 17)? What does it mean that Christians are exiles (cf. Philippians 3:20-21; Hebrews 13:14-15; Romans 8:22-23; 2Corinthians 5:1-10; 1Peter 1:17-2:12)?

3. Why do you think David found favor (i.e. “grace”) with Achish? What was the previous experience David had with Ashish (cf. 1Samuel 21)? Describe David’s attitude toward and relationship with Achish?

4. Why does the writer inform us about David’s raids? How does the writer help us understand the justification of these raids by saying they were “inhabitants of the land from of old”?

5. As Christians, why is it important to be careful in our relationships with nonbelievers (cf. 1Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 22:24)? What does it mean that Jesus was a friend of sinners (cf. Matthew 11:18-19)? What are some general principles to follow in relationships with nonbelievers (cf. Romans 12:14-21)?

6. How would you describe the life of Christ with regard to his drive and determination for the work of God (cf. Matthews 3:13; John 4:34-35; 8:28-30; 12:27-28; Luke 9:51-52; 22:39-46)? In what areas do you need to grow in focus, drive, and determination with the work of God?
