2. Briefly explain the Bible’s big picture. If somebody unfamiliar with the Bible asked you what it was about, how would you respond? How would you explain the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament?
3. Read 1Kings 11:1-13. How does this passage relate to 2Samuel 7? Did David’s son Solomon sit upon the throne forever? Was God unfaithful in his covenant with David? Did Solomon somehow void God’s promise? What are your thoughts on this topic?
4. What is the significance of God being a father to this promised son? How does the testimony of God in Matthew 17:1-7 confirm this promise to David? What does it mean to listen to the Son of God? Would you describe yourself as listening to Christ? Explain.
5. How has God dealt with sin through Christ (cf. 2Corinthians 5:21)? How should we view the stripes and affliction Christ received on our part (cf. Isaiah 52-53)? How should we live in light of what Christ has done for us (cf. Hebrews 2:14-18; John 3:1-14)?
6. What does it mean that God has steadfast love toward his people? Does God’s love overlook our sin? Explain your thoughts. Read Psalm 136 and take time to give thanks to the Lord for his steadfast love.
