Life Group Questions
1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?
2. Does it seem odd to you that David has found himself supporting the Philistines in their quest against Israel? How have previous situations and decisions impacted his current station in life? Do you think David has made good decisions? Explain.
3. As you might remember Saul was removed from the Kingdom because of his disobedience (cf. Chapter 15). How was Saul disobedient in the way he handled the necromancers of the land (cf. Leviticus 20:27)? What does this tell us about Saul?
4. Why is Saul’s interaction with a necromancer so serious (cf. Leviticus 20:6)? What does this indicate about Saul’s spiritual condition? Do you think that Saul was saved? What does it mean that he was told he would be with Samuel the next day (cf. 1Samuel 28:19)? Where did Samuel come from (cf. 1Samuel 28:13)?
5. Do you think Samuel was actually called up? What evidence from the text would suggest that he was, in fact, raised up? Can you think of any Biblical objections to this being Samuel speaking? Explain.
6. Describe a time in your life when God appeared silent. How did that make you feel? What are some things we should do in response to God’s silence? What are some ways in which we can “hear” God speak?
