2 Samuel 7:25-29

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Why do you think we fail to pray as we should? How consistently do you pray? How do we go about fulfilling the biblical mandate to “pray without ceasing” (1Thessalonians 5:17)?

3. Read and briefly summarize David’s prayer to God in 2Samuel 7:18-29? What are some reasons for which David prayed? What were some things that encouraged David to pray? What lessons can we learn from David here?

4. List some biblical passages that encourage you in prayer (cf. 1John 5:14-15; James 5:16; Psalms 10:17; 57:7; 112:6)? Describe how the word of God encourages us to pray. What kind of prayer does the word of God encourage?

5. How does what God has revealed to us encourage us to pray. What does it mean for God to reveal hidden things to us (cf. Jeremiah 33:3)? Read the following passages and describe how the revelation of God encouraged prayer: Daniel 9; Luke 1-2; Psalm 119:169-171.

6. List some specific aspects of God’s character encourage us to pray. Consider the following passages: Psalm 18:6-9; 145:18-19, 1Peter 5:6-7, Hebrews 4:16.
