2. Look up the Biblical word enmity in a Bible dictionary and describe its meaning. Why is it important that Paul used a noun for enmity instead of a verb? Where does enmity come from?
3. Describe some feelings we experience when we’re the object of enmity and hatred. Have you ever struggled with someone who expressed hatred toward you? How should having experienced hatred encourage us not to do the same?
4. Why do you think the Bible teaches us to have compassion on those who express hatred toward us (cf. Proverbs 25:21; Exodus 23:4-5; Matthew 5:43-48)? What are some common struggles we face with loving our enemies (cf. Romans 12:19-20)?
5. Why should we never consider a fellow believer as an enemy (cf. 2 Thessalonians 3:13-15; Galatians 4:16; 3:27-29)? How does regarding a Christian as an enemy offend the grace and work of God?
6. What does it mean that we were enemies of God (cf. Ephesians 2)? How did God remove the hostility between us and Himself (cf. 2 Thessalonians 5:17-19)? How does our enmity toward God relate to events which took place in the Garden (cf. Genesis 3:1-15)?
