1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What are some topics and keywords in this section that point back to material in 1Samuel? What is the significance of this section recounting the death of Saul?

3. Why do you think the writer wants us to know that David was not present at the death of Saul? How does Saul’s death relate to the Word of God that came through Samuel (cf. 1Samuel 28:17ff)?

4. Some say it seems as though there is a contradiction between the account of Saul’s death in 1 Samuel 31 and this passage. What differences do you see with the accounts? How do you reconcile the two accounts? Do you believe that everything in Scripture is true and accurate? Explain your answer.

5. Do you think that it was wrong for David to have the young Amalekite killed? How does this situation relate to Genesis 9:6? Are there legitimate reasons for life to be taken? What does it mean to regard the sanctity of human life?

6. How are faith and works related? Do you think that a person can have faith, yet lack works (cf. James 2)? How can we be certain that we have saving faith?
