2. What thoughts come to mind when you consider the biblical teaching of idolatry? Why is idolatry such a serious offense? What were some ways in which Israel committed idolatry (cf. Exodus 32; Ezekiel 20)?

3. Why is idolatry a foolish act (cf. Psalm 115:1-8)? Why is one’s hope forsaken when idols are regarded (cf. Jonah 2:8)? What is the penalty for idolatry when it is carried to its furthest extent (cf. Romans 1:18-25; Ephesians 5:5)?

4. Do you think idolatry is a relevant issue for us today? What are some ways in which people commit idolatry today? What are some potential idols Christians need to guard themselves against (cf. Matthew 6:24; 1Samuel 2:29; 15:23)?

5. Why is idolatry equated with covetousness (cf. Colossians 3:5; Ephesians 5:5)? Describe how the Fall involved the sin of idolatry (cf. Genesis 3:1-6). What does idolatry reveal about our heart (cf. Deuteronomy 13:1-3; Mark 7:21-23)?
