Galatians 5:16-25

Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Define jealousy and describe some of the common characteristics associated with it Is jealousy good or bad? Why should we avoid the temptation of jealousy (cf. James 3:14-16)?

3. Describe a time when you were a victim of jealousy. How did that make you feel? Why is jealousy so destructive to relationships? What are some general ways to deal with the various forms of jealousy?

4. Read the following passages and provide some general observations and comments about jealousy: Proverbs 6:32-35; 14:30; 27:3-4; Job 5:2.

5. Describe some of the effects of jealousy recorded in the following passages: Genesis 37:9-11; Acts 5:16-18; 13:44-45. Why did God deal so harshly with those who were jealous of Moses and Aaron (cf. Numbers 16; Psalm 106)?

6. Explain your understanding of God being a jealous God (cf. Exodus 20:4-5; Deuteronomy 4:23-24; Joshua 24:19; Isaiah 9:6-7). How can God be described as jealous and yet be holy and righteous?

7. What are some things for which we should be jealous (cf. John 2:17; 2Corinthians 7:5-7; 11:2)? What does it mean that Christ was wrapped in zeal (i.e., jealousy) as a cloak? How can we be wrapped in a similar cloak?
