2Samuel 2:1-11

Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Have you ever struggled with why Christians encounter trials and difficulties in life? What are some of your questions about this phenomenon? Consider the following passages: 1Peter 1:6; 4:12-13; John 16:33; Romans 8:18; James 1:2-4.

3. Describe how the writer of our passage signals the directing hand of God by the use of certain key words. How does the lack of certain key words in part of the story (vss. 8-9) show a distinction between the enthronement of David and that of Ish-bosheth?

4. Why do you think David inquired of the Lord? What does this tell us about David’s relationship with God? Why is it important for us to inquire and seek God (cf. Isaiah 55:6-9; Hebrews 11:6; Psalm 34:8-10)? What are some things for which you need to seek the Lord? Take the time to pray and ask God for wisdom and direction (James 1:5).

5. Based on our passage, how do you think God’s anointing affected David’s attitude and actions? How did he use his anointing to extend grace to the people of Jabesh- gilead? How should our calling as Christians affect our lives (cf. 1Peter 2:9; 21; Joshua 1:9; Ephesians 6:10)?

6. Consider and comment on the following passages and their relationship to Christ as the one legitimate King of Kings: Matthew 3:16-17; John 10:11; Matthew 11:28-30.
