1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What does it mean that Christ is the Prince of Peace (cf. Isaiah 9:6-7)? How does the peace of God differ from the world’s peace (cf. John 14:25-27)? Describe your experience with the peace of God in various aspects of life.

3. What does it mean that God sent a harmful/bad/evil spirit to Saul? How does this idea impact our understanding that God does not participate in evil or sin? Read the following related passages and provide some observations: 1 Chronicles 21 and 1 Kings 22.

4. Why did God reject Saul? How did Saul’s rejection of God impact God’s treatment of him (cf. 1 Samuel 12:14-15)? Do we need to fear that God will take His Spirit from us (cf. 1 Samuel 16:14: Psalm 51:11)? Explain your answer.

5. Why does God allow what appears to be bad things to happen to His people? Why does God allow evil to impact the lives of people and creation as a whole? How does the life and death of Christ help us understand God’s allowance of hardship and sin (cf. Isaiah 52-53; 1 Peter 3:14; 4:19)?

6. What is the evidence in this passage that the Lord was with David? How did the presence of God benefit David? Why do you think the Lord used David to comfort Saul if He had rejected him as King? Why did God allow Saul to stay on the scene even after God had anointed David as King?
