Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What do the first three works of the flesh have in common; what is the nature of their sin? Do you think these sins are an issue Christians face today? Why are they so detrimental to our Christian walk and witness?

3. Read Romans 13:12-14 and 1Thessalonians 4:9-12. What does it mean to cast off the works of darkness, and why is that important? What are some specific ways in which we can fulfill the command not to make provision for the flesh? What are some personal steps you need to take in your life?

4. Although the Bible does not provide us with a dress code, it does give us some general guidelines (cf. 1Timothy 2:8-10, 1Peter 3:3-4). What does it mean to dress modestly and appropriately as a Christian? Do you think it matters how we dress for church activities? How does our appearance affect our witness? Explain.

5. Do you ever struggle in your thought life (cf. Psalm 19:14 Philippians 4:8)? What areas of life should not occupy our thoughts? What does it mean to set our minds on the things above and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (cf. Colossians 3:2; 2Corinthians 10:5)?

6. Describe ways in which we should show discernment and modesty in the following areas: wealth (cf. 1Timothy 6:17; Proverbs 23:4-7; Hebrews 13:5); consumption (cf. Provers 25:16-17; 23:20-21; Philippians 3:18-19; Proverbs 21:17); and achievement (cf. Proverbs 21:1-2; Galatians 6:14; Romans 4:1-3; 1Corinthians 1:26-31).
