1 John 1:5-10

Life Group Questions

1) If you were not at this week’s sermon consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2) What does John mean when he talks about the idea of the light? Who is the light, and why is walking in this light so significant (cf. John 1:1-5, 8:12, 12:46, Isaiah 9:2)?

3) John points out several signs of a true walk with God. Read the following passages in 1John and see what marks a true believer: 1John 2:3, 3:9-10, 17, 24, 4:7-8, 5:1-2. According to 1John 5:13, what is the purpose of John writing all this?

4) What does it mean to have fellowship with God? How do we know we have fellowship with God (cf. 1John 5:1-2)? What is the effect of fellowship with God (cf. 1John 1:7)?

5) How does a person have their sins forgiven by God? Why is confession of sin so important in the life of a believer? What are believers promised when we confess sin (1John 1:9, Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 32:5, Psalm 103:12)?

6) Consider the faithfulness and forgiveness of God in your life. Read Psalm 86:1-5 how does this remind you of what God has done, and what does this stir in you?
