2. Why do you think Paul used “works” with reference to the flesh, but “fruit” with reference to the Spirit? What ideas does the imagery of fruit create in this passage (cf. Hebrews 13:15; Philippians 1:21-22)?
3. What did Jesus mean when he said that we would be able to recognize people by their fruit (cf. Matthew 7:16)? What does good fruit tell us about a person’s relationship
and walk with the Lord? What fruit do you see in your life?
4. What are some areas in life for which we need to be careful about taking credit for the work of God’s Spirit (cf. 1Corinthians 2:1-5)? What does it mean that God gives his Spirit without measure (cf. John 3:34)? How can this be applied to the idea of the fruit of the Spirit in our lives?
5. What is the difference between the gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit (cf. Romans 12; 1Corinthians 12)? Does every believer have the fruit of the Spirit? What is our responsibility in bearing fruit (cf. Titus 3:8, 14; Hebrews 10:24; Matthew 5:14-16)?
