Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Why is fire such a fascinating event and process? What are some ways in which fire brings peace and joy? What are some ways in which fire brings fear and terror? How does this all relate to God as a consuming fire (vs. 29)?

3. Read the following passages: Deuteronomy 4:21-24; 9:1-3; 2 Kings 1:1-16; Isaiah 33:12-14. How does the Bible use the idea of God as a consuming fire to warn us? Do you think we need to be concerned about this as Christians? Explain.

4. Look back at the warning passages in Hebrews: 2:1-4; 3:12-4:13; 5:11-6:12; 10:19-39; 12:25-29. Briefly summarize the warnings. Why does the writer warn us about these things?

5. List some ways in which God has spoken in the past (cf. Genesis 1-2; Exodus 3; 1 Kings 19; Hebrews 1). How does God speak today? How does God speak to you? How can we hear the “voice” of God?

6. What are some ways that we “refuse” God? Why should we be careful not to refuse God (cf. 2 Peter 3:8-12)? What happened to those in the Bible who refused God? As Christians, are we exempt from the consequences of refusing God? Explain.

7. How is reverence and awe shown toward God? What does it mean to worship God, and what are some ways we can do that (cf. Psalm 2:10-12; Ecclesiastes 12:11-14; Romans 12:1-2)? Would you say that you are worshiping God with your life? Explain?
