Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Why do you think God used Nathan to communicate with David instead of speaking to David Himself? How does this use of Nathan align with 2Samuel 7 and the general role of prophets in the Old Testament?

3. Describe some ways in which God has spoken in the past and continues to speak today (cf. Psalm 33:9; Genesis 12:1; Exodus 3; Hebrews 1:1-3; John 10:27; 2Timothy 3:16; 1Peter 1:21; Matthew 10:19)? What is recognizable about the manner in which God speaks? Describe a time when God spoke to you.

4. Looking at the story before us, what strikes you about the manner in which Nathan addressed the sin of David? Why do you think Nathan handled the situation this way? Do you think Nathan was wrong? What lessons can we learn from Nathan’s technique?

5. What does it mean when the Bible says our sin will find us out (cf. Numbers 32:23)? Why do you think God allows us to sin? Why did God delay his address of David’s sin?

6. Describe some areas and ways in which David’s sin had blinded him to his own faults. Consider the following passages and provide some observations and application: 2Peter 1:5-9; Jonah 4:5-11; James 1:22-25; Luke 6:41-42.
