2. What stands out to you most about the story of David and Bathsheba? How does this story stand out from previous sections dealing with David? How does David’s character compare to previous descriptions of his life in Samuel?

3. From where does temptation come (cf. Matthews 18:7)? What does it mean that God does not tempt anyone with sin (cf. James 1:12-15)? How does understanding this help us combat temptation? How are tempting and testing different?

4. Describe some ways in which we can improve our success with battling temptation and sin (cf. Matthew 26:41; 1Corinthians 10:13; Galatians 6:1). What are some basic principles you have learned for winning the battle over temptation and sin?

5. Why do you think David succumbed to the sin he committed with Bathsheba (Psalm 37:4)? Do you think that Bathsheba was to blame for any of this situation? Explain your thoughts and reasoning. Why do you think the writer mentions that Bathsheba had “purified herself from her uncleanness” before coming to David (cf. Leviticus 15)?

6. Why is it impossible to hide sin (cf. Proverbs 15:3; Hebrews 4:12)? Have you ever attempted to conceal or hide your sin only to find that it bore consequences? How should knowing that no sin can be hidden help us live holy lives (cf. Galatians 6:7; Luke 12:2-3)? Do you have any concealed sin in need of confession? Will you?
