2. Read Romans chapter 4 and briefly describe the relationship between the Law, faith, and promise. Why is it important to understand that Abraham was justified by faith and not the Law? Explain why it is important to understand that faith is the vehicle by which God’s promises occur (cf. Ephesians 2:8-10).

3. How does this passage show us God’s self-sufficiency and our dependency on His promises? How does God’s promise of rest relate to Genesis 2:15? How is this passage related to such scripture as Genesis 3:15 and 12:1-3?

4. Take a lexicon or bible dictionary and look up the words “house,” “make,” and “build” in this passage. Describe how the writer is using a play on words to express his message of God’s great promise. You may want to look this passage up in a reputable commentary to explore its significance.

5. Obviously, God intended to build David something more than a regular house. What is the makeup of this house that God promised David (cf. Psalm 89; Isaiah 9:6-7; Jeremiah 23:5-6)? Explain how Luke and Peter understood this promise to David (cf. Luke 1:30-33; Acts 2:25-32ff).

6. Take time to praise the Lord for what he has done through the promise of Christ. Pray that Christ would reign upon the throne of your heart. Ask God to fulfill his plan for Christ in your life.
