2. Do you think that Abner deserved to die for what he did to Asahel? Why or why not? For what reason did the writer say Abner died? What was the cause of his death? How did Abner’s actions contribute to his fall (Galatians 6:7)?
3. Do you think it was wrong for Joab to put Abner to death? Why or why not? What would be the difference between David, instead of Joab, putting Abner to death (cf. Romans 13:1-7)? List some reasons why we should refrain from carrying out judgment against others.
4. Why does God say it is wrong for us to act in vengeance (cf. Romans 12:14-21)? Do you believe that God wants us to do good to those who oppose or even attack us (cf. Matthew 5:43-48)? Do you struggle with wanting to give people “paybacks”? If so, pray and ask the Lord to help you with this area of life.
5. How does it make you feel that we will all stand before the judgment seat of God (cf. 2Corinthians 5:9-10)? Do you fear judgment for things that you have done or are doing? How can we have hope for the day of judgment (cf. Colossians 3:1-3)?
6. What does it mean that the Lord is gentle and gracious (cf. Exodus 34:6-7; Psalm 145:8-9)? Read Titus 3:4-7 and briefly explain the gentleness and kindness of God found in Christ. List some reasons why we should praise God for His gentleness and grace.
