1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Explain the significance of Abner making himself strong while David was being established by God (cf. vs. 3:1-6)? What are some implications concerning the statement that there was a war between the house of David and the house of Saul?

3. Describe the relationship between Abner and Ish-bosheth. Do you think it was wise for David to enter into a covenant with Abner? Why or why not? Describe the general character of Abner (cf. 2Samuel 2:8-23; 3:34).

4. Why do you think the writer emphasizes the idea of peace in this section (vvs. 21-23)? Describe the meaning of God’s peace and how we acquire it? Describe a time when you experienced the peace of God that surpassed all circumstances (cf. Philippians 4:7)

5. Do you believe it is appropriate to describe God as a promise maker and keeper? Explain your thoughts. List at least three significant promises that God has made and fulfilled. What are some of the promises that God has fulfilled in your own life?

6. Briefly describe the meaning of God’s salvation. From what has God saved us (cf. 1John 5:4)? What is the means by which God provides us with salvation (cf. Acts 4:12; 1Corinthians 15:57)? What stands out to you about your own experience of God’s salvation?
