1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Look up and read the Nicene Creed (325 A.D.). Why is this creed important to Christians? What are some key points made about the nature and essence of Christ? What are some ways in which this creed helps us praise the Lord?

3. How does the designation “Second Samuel” differ from other books of the New Testament, like “Second John” or “Second Corinthians”? What continuity do you see between the end of First Samuel and the beginning of Second Samuel?

4. In the Hebrew canon, the book of Samuel is considered part of the prophets. In the English canon, the Book of Samuel is considered part of the historical material. How do these different categorizations influence our thinking about the purpose of Samuel?

5. How do we know that Samuel was not the author of the book of Samuel? List at least three reasons for such a conclusion. Does not knowing the author of the book hinder our understanding of its content? Does not knowing the author hinder the book’s reliability? Explain your answers.
