Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. How would you rate your success at having joy amid trials and difficulties? Can a Christian consider trials a joy? Explain.

3. Read James 1:1-8 and provide at least three observations. What does it mean to consider trials all joy? What is the significance of this being written in the form of a command to us?

4. Why do Christians experience trials and difficulties in life (cf. John 16:32-33; Acts 14:21-22)? Are trials a necessary part of this life? Why or why not? How will a proper biblical understanding of trials help us deal with them?

5. Read the following passages and give a short answer as to some reasons why we can embrace trials:
a. James 1:1-12
b. 1Peter 1:3-9
c. 1Corinthians 10:12-13
d. Romans 8:18-21

6. What are some ways in which we can lessen the occurrence and impact of trials (cf. Deuteronomy 12:28; Matthew 16:23)? How does the example of Christ help us with trials (cf. Hebrews 12:1-2)? How does the presence of God in our trials encourage us to embrace trials (cf. 2Corinthians 4:7-10; Daniel 3:1-25)?
