2. List some common attributes and characteristics of God (e.g. eternal, loving, etc.). Do you think of God as a happy and joyful being? Is it proper and accurate for us to think of Him as such (cf. Matthew 3:17; Luke 121:32)? Explain.
3. Why should God’s people be happy and joyful? What are some reasons for which we should be happy (cf. Psalm 114:15)? Describe how joy is both a privilege and an act of obedience for believers (cf. 1Thessalonians 5:16)?
4. What does it mean to have joy in the Lord (cf. Philippians 4:4)? What are some of the promises of God that should lead us to rejoice? How does the Gospel bring happiness to us (cf. Isaiah 52:7; 61:10)? Would you say that the Gospel has resulted in joy for you? Explain.
5. Read Psalm 90:14. What does it mean to be satisfied with God’s love? How can we know if we are satisfied with God? How does God’s affection for us lead to happiness and joy? Take time to pray and ask God to help you grow in these areas.
6. Describe some of the works of God (Psalm 98:1; 104:24; Ephesians 2:10; 1Thessalonians 2:13; Romans 8:28; Phil 1:6; 1Corinthians 2:9-10)? How should these past, present, and future works promote a sense of joy and happiness in our lives? Do you have joy and happiness that is superior to circumstances? Explain.
