1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Describe some major lessons you learned from First Samuel. How has this book helped you understand more about the kingdom of God? What is meant by the idea that the Kingdom is here, but not yet?

3. List some important thoughts expressed in Hannah’s song (cf. 1Samuel 2). What does this song state about God’s character? Why should it surprise us that a king is mentioned at the end of the song?

4. What impresses you about the call of Samuel (cf. 1Samuel 3)? What is the significance of Samuel referring to himself as a servant? Do you remember a time when God first called you? How does God want you to serve him?

5. What was Saul’s major flaw (cf. 1Samuel 13 & 15)? What is the relationship between obedience and sacrifice (cf. 1Samuel 15:22)? What does it mean to be obedient to Christ? In what areas do you need to grow in obedience to God?

6. Why do you think God chose David to be the King of Israel (cf. 1Samuel 13 & 16)? Have you ever found yourself in awe as to why God chose you (cf. 1Chronicles 17; John 15:16)? How should a person live in response to knowing God chose them?
