Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Look up the word translated as “carousing” (NASB translation) in a Bible dictionary and describe its meaning. How is this world used in Romans 13:13 and 1Peter 4:3? Why do you think the ESV translated this word as “orgies?”

3. Do you think that our culture has made pleasure (e.g. entertainment, ease, comfort, fun) a god (cf. 2Timothy 3:1-4)? What are some pitfalls of having pleasure as a goal (cf. Ecclesiastes 2:1-11; Luke 12:16-21)? Is God against us having pleasure and enjoyment in life? Explain your thoughts.

4. Read the following passages and provide some observations about carousing and pleasure:
– Proverbs 21:17
– Proverbs 25:16-17
– Proverbs 29:18
– Ecclesiastes 7:15-18

5. What does it mean to be a mature Christian (cf. 1Corinthians 13:9-12)? What are some ways in which a person grows in Christian maturity (cf. 1Peter 2:1-5)? List some ways in which you are striving to grow in maturity.

6. What does it mean to be rich toward God (cf. Luke 12:16-21)? How faithful are you in remembering the Lord and honoring Him (cf. Deuteronomy 8:18; Proverbs 3:9; 1Timothy 6:17)? Does your life testify that Christ is your greatest treasure (cf. Philippians 3:8; John 6:68-69)? Explain your ideas related to these topics.
