Galatians 5:16-25

Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. What does it mean that God is good? Does that seem like a devalued statement about God? How might the use of the word good in our culture negatively impact our estimation of God’s character?

3. What are some of the attributes of God that help us understand and appreciate His goodness (e.g., love)? What are some of God’s attributes that may challenge our understanding and acceptance of God’s goodness (e.g., wrath)?

4. Do you think it’s true that God alone is good (cf. Psalm 119:68; Matthew 19:16; Luke 18:18)? What does it mean that there are no others that are good or do good (cf. Psalm 14:1,4)? What is it that determines if a person is good? Do you think people can do good apart from the work of God’s Spirit? Explain.

5. Read the following passages: Luke 18:18-19; Matthew 5:48; 2Corinthians 5:21; 1Peter 1:19; Psalm 143:10; Nehemiah 9:19. What significance is there in recognizing the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as all being equally good?

6. Describe the meaning of God being perfectly good in every aspect of his being (cf. 1John 1:5). What is the relationship between God’s goodness and His glory (cf. Exodus 33:18-19)? If God looked down and saw the sin of man in Genesis 6, how are we to understand Habakuk 1:13, which states He is too pure to “look at wrong”?
