1. If you were not at this week’s service, consider going to the church website and listening to the sermon. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Look up the definition of covenant in a Bible dictionary or lexicon. What is the significance of a covenant? What is the difference between a conditional and unconditional covenant?

3. Describe the Old Covenant referred to by the writer of Hebrews (cf. Exodus 191-5; 24:1-8)? Why was the Old Covenant inadequate for the forgiveness of sin (cf. Romans 8:1-3)?

4. How did God’s covenants with Noah, Abraham, and David differ from the Mosaic covenant (cf. Genesis 9:8-11; 12:1-3; Psalm 89:1-4)?

5. According to our passage’s quotation from Jeremiah 31, who is the one responsible for changing man’s heart? Who is the one that gives us a right mind and understanding about the things of God (cf. Hebrews 8:10-11)?

6. Read Ezekiel 36:1-27. What work does God promise to do for His people? How do we know if God has given us a new heart? How do we know if God has given us His Holy Spirit?

7. What does God mean when He says that we will know Him (cf. Hebrews 8:12)? Would you say that you know God? Why or why not? How can we know the Lord (cf. 1 John 2:1-15; 5:20)?

8. How does the New Covenant bring about the forgiveness of sins (cf. Matthews 26:26-28)? How does the New Covenant differ from the Old Covenant with regard to the forgiveness of sins (cf. Romans 3:21-26)?
