Life Group Questions

1. If you were not able to hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What are some main ideas you gathered from the sermon? What, if any, questions did the sermon cause for you or do you desire to have additional clarification?

2. Look at the following verses and describe God’s call to salvation: Matthew 4:21, 9:13, 22:8-9; 1 Corinthians 1:9; Galatians 1:6; 1 Timothy 6:12; 2 Timothy 1:9; 1 Peter 2:9, 2:21, 5:10. Do you believe God calls all people? Do you believe God’s calling is essential for salvation? Explain why or why not.

3. What did Paul mean when he claimed he was called as an apostle? What was the basis of Jeremiah’s ministry as a prophet (cf. Jeremiah 1:4)? Do you believe God still has special callings for people? Explain. Has God called you to any special responsibilities? Describe your calling.

4. Have you ever struggled with comparing yourself to other people instead of focusing on your own responsibilities? What are some problems and dangers associated with comparing ourselves to other people?

5. Read 1Corinthians 9:24-27. How is the Christian life a race? In what way do we need to discipline ourselves in order to run the race well? Do you consider yourself to be running the race well? Explain why or why not.

6. What does jealousy and envy reveal about a person’s spiritual condition (cf. 1 Corinthians 3:2-3)? How does jealousy toward others impact our relationship with them and God? What is the solution to dealing with feelings of jealousy?

7. Why do you think Peter asked about John’s future? What does Jesus’ response to Peter tell us? Knowing their close relationship, do you think it’s strange that Peter referred to John as “this man”?

8. What does it mean to follow Christ? How can we know His plan and will for our lives? How well are you following Christ? In what area of your Christian life do you need to grow so that you are a better follower?

9. What was John’s purpose in mentioning the Last Supper where he leaned against Jesus? Although two different Greek words are translated “bosom” in John 1:18 and 21:20, what might be the significance of these occurrences?
